Cypher in Albany, NY's Colonie Mall
It was like a scene straight out of hip hop's past for Lids employee/aspiring rap artist Myk Skeemz, when he found himself in the middle of cyclical, free-styling mayhem.
"I was at work and I was letting one of my boys hear a few bars. A customer came in and they heard me so they started spitting, my cousin came in the store and he started spitting and then some more people heard and they came in," Skeemz said.
For those of you who don't know a cypher is not a battle, the rules are simple: DON'T BREAK THE CYPHER. That's just what these guys did not do. The cypher grew until about six different people were throwing versus back and forth. It lasted for about a half an hour. Onlookers were amazed by what they were hearing and seeing. Skeemz was glad to hear all of the positive feedback.
Myk Skeemz originally born Michael O'Kaine first discovered his love of hip hop and more specifically rap music when he was just 11-years-old. Now that he's 21 that love is as strong as it's ever been. He's lyrics derive strictly from real life experiences which is prevelent in this verse:
U think I'm loOkin in tha sky
(Naw)
I'm loOkin straight into my mothers eyes
She gave me devilish thoughts, trust in god, a Spartans pride
Tha heart that I've aquired requires a smile from my daughter daily
Wit out that I'm liable to go wild krazy,
Like a werewolf ina full moOn
U know the rose that grows from tha concrete,
That's me when it's fully bloOmed
My dude
Tha difference between me n tha average rapper
I live it out then spit about it after
Wanna get on tha same page as me easy skip a few chapters
"Everything you hear me spit is something I have done, I'm doing or I will do depending on the situation I'm placed in..."
